DJ Subroc (1973-1993) was a hip hop artist and a member of KMD, Constipated Monkey & Monsta Island Czars. His first group, KMD was formed by him along with his brother Zev Love X and Doc Morreau who would later be known as Rodan, but later replaced by Onyx the Birthstone Kid. His first release was the LP, Mr.Hood, on Elektra Records, in 1991. Although production is either credited to KMD or Stimulated Dummies, he produced all under the name KMD, due to the fact he was underage at the release of the album. After further production for artists like 3rd Bass, MF Grimm, Megalon aka Tommy Gunn, Kurious, & Zev Loev X, who would later be known as MF DOOM, he died tragically in 1993 after being hit by a car. His death put production of the KMD album Black Bastards to a halt and marked the end of KMD, although Black Bastards was later released. Many of what people believe to be MF DOOM productions, are actually that of the late, Dj Subroc, Instrumentals like "Peach Extract", "Hands Of Doom", "Rainblood"(Pt.1 & 2), "Hoe Cakes", and, "Scientific Civilization" , to name a few. A tribute album is in the works, it is rumored to be released on New York indie label, 187Ruthless. The album is set to feature mixes with Jay-Z, Young E, MF DOOM, Wu Tang Clan, Nas, & Monsta Island Czars, over Subroc beats. The tentative title is SUBSTANCE. This page is dedicated to the late Dj Subroc.
