The band Univaque was formed in the mid 1990's by childhood friends Mark Welbourn and Steve Ellam, alias "Zammo". The band's concept was to merge early 1980's synthpop with modern technology, therefore bringing the classic sound to a whole new audience. Univaque became complete when Mark and Zammo met Chris Cross at a Gary Numan concert in 1996. Chris expressed an interest in joining the band, but couldn't play an instrument. "Go away and learn how to play a synth!", urged Mark and Zammo, and obligingly he did. Hereby Univaque was born. While Mark, Zammo and Chris worked on the songs, lives continued. Zammo became an established DJ on London's alternative scene, and eventually worked as a roadie for Sigue Sigue Sputnick. Mark sang with a Depeche Mode cover band, and Chris, well Chris learnt how to stand behind a synth and look good. The guys however were determined to push the idea of the band forward, and through Mark's long established friendship with Johan Malmgren, an at the time current member of Elegant Machinery, they got further help with their musical ideas. Marks subsequent move to Sweden in 1998 gave the band further opportunities to co-operate with Johan's musical expertise and head for melodies, and in the past two years the album "Lost in a maze" has taken shape. Whilst still a London based band, Zammo and Chris have worn out their passports in order to help Mark complete the album, which positively buzzes with the new found enthusiasm for the 1980's analogue sound.
