American music producer and record label owner (February 12, 1920 – March 13, 1985). Shad's career as a producer began with [l=Savoy Records] and [l=National Records (2)] in the 1940s, producing [a=Charlie Parker] in addition to blues and R&B material. He produced, among other jazz musicians, [a=Sarah Vaughan], [a=Maynard Ferguson], the Clifford Brown/Max Roach quintet Billy Eckstine and [a=Dinah Washington]. He also worked in pop (with [a=Patti Page], Vic Damone, and [a=Platters, The]) and blues (with Hopkins again and Big Bill Broonzy). His credits in rock and roll include the debut albums of both Janis Joplin and Ted Nugent (The Amboy Dukes). Among his labels were [l=Time Records (3)], [l=Brent] Records, [l=Mainstream Records], [l=Shad].
