b : November 27, 1904 in Louisiana (USA) d : April 25, 1962 in Chicago (USA) Eddie South began studying violin very young. He should have gone on to pursue a carreer in classical music, but he was black, so he played jazz. He starts his carreer in 1921 with Erskine Tate and Mae Brady. In 1923, he's the musical director of Jimmy Wade's Syncopators. He creates his own "Alabamians" in 1927. During an European tour in 1929 with Marian Harris, he discovers gypsy music in Budapest. In 1937, he goes back in Europe and records in Paris with [a=Django Reinhardt], [A=Stéphane Grappelli] and [a=Michel Warlop] his greatest recordings.
